Swapping the pressed steel platter of the standard Debut model for a hugely improved acrylic one makes a big difference. These are usually only standard on turntables costing twice as much or more. The resulting improvement in sound quality is marked with improved timing, cohesion of sound and superior detail. Another key feature with the Debut Carbon Esprit is the addition of a carbon fibre tone arm tube. Usually only found on much more expensive turntables, a carbon fibre tone arm tube provides significant benefits to the sound quality. Being stiffer than steel, the tone arm is more rigid than before. This helps convey the music more accurately as there's also reduced arm resonance. In short, the music sounds tighter, punchier and more detailed than before. Improved motor dampening using Sorbothane helps give better isolation. In terms of sound quality, isolating the motor means less background noise and a more dynamic and revealing sound. The motor itself is a good quality, decoupled, synchronous design that, together with a precise belt drive system gives a smooth, high torque drive. The rigid plinth with anti-vibration feet is ideal in providing a taut sound quality. Using a brass bearing housing and stainless steel axle, the platter hub is superbly engineered and built to close tolerances for fine sound and longevity. There's also a good quality Ortofon cartridge included with the turntable, meaning it's ready to go straight out of the box. With its glossy plinth, the Debut Carbon Esprit looks smart without being flashy.
